Newly installed Alaketu of Ketu kingdom, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ajibade Adebowale Babatunde Adekanbi Adegbite Orimadegun 1 Alaketu of ketu kingdom, has said that his reign as the new king will usher in unprecedented turnaround in Ketu kingdom. Speaking with Global Affairs Magazine he assured that he will not let the people of Ketu kingdom down and he will not let Nigeria down.

He acknowledged that the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi was extremely instrumental to his installation as the new Oba of Ketu kingdom as he expressed gratitude to him.

"I want to specially appreciate the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi for the fatherly role he played that led to my installation as the Alaketu of Ketu kingdom. I will remain eternally grateful to him."

The elated Oba who was severally recommended by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. described his installation as one ordained and blessed by the gods.

"I feel so good to be the king of ketu kingdom, I can categorically say that my installation is divine. God gave me victory over my adversaries and competitors.

"The people i actually thought were supporting me turned out to be my betrayers. Since I defeated my competitor who works with the current government there has been threats to kill me as they know the original crown is with me but God has been shielding me from dangers". He said.

Ketu is a historical region in what is now the Republic of Benin, in the area of the town of Kétou. It is one of the oldest capitals of the Yoruba-speaking people, tracing its establishment to a settlement founded by a descendant of Oduduwa, also known as Odudua, Oòdua and Eleduwa. The regents of the town were traditionally styled "Alaketu", and are related directly to Ile-ife in present-day Nigeria.

Ketu is one of the sixteen original kingdoms established by the children of Oduduwa in Oyo mythic history, though this ancient pedigree has been somewhat neglected in contemporary Yoruba historical research, which tends to focus on communities within Nigeria. The exact status of Ketu within the Oyo empire however is contested. Oyo sources claim Ketu as a dependency with claims that the Ketu paid an annual tribute and that its ruler attended the Bere festival in Oyo. In any case, there is no doubt that Ketu and Oyo maintained friendly relations largely due to their historical, linguistic, cultural and ethnic ties.
