PAWISCA TAKES SENSITIZATION TO MARKET PLACES

 


A non-governmental organization, Platform for African Women in Smart Climate Agriculture (PAWISCA), in a recent development embarked on a mission to sensitize market women on the varieties of roles they need to play to become leaders, administrators and good managers of family income, in order to create the awareness that Women are the key to sustainable development and quality of life in the family and not just a house wife. 


On Wednesday 24th of November, some of the executives of PAWISCA Pillar stormed Alade market to sensitize the traders and other residents on the need to become more creative and be good financial managers rather than relegating themselves to common house wives.


The national women captain, Bishop Patience Uwa in her opening remark told Alade market women that, "PAWISCA aims to prevent women from being relegated to a secondary role".

Speaking further on the PAWISCA objectives for Nigerian women she posited that; "The scheme targets women, youths empowerment and leadership, and their role in achieving sustainable development and influencing positive change.

"The programme will also look at the main challenges that must be overcome to ensure young women’s voices are heard, Creating generational prosperity, Having sustainability, Creative agriculture, ocean practices, fisheries, livestock. Land regeneration and lots more". She said.


According to the women leader the project was designed to assist the government in eradicating poverty and unemployment in Nigeria.


The wife of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Chairman, Mrs Modupe Oke who spoke extensively to the market women said, having carefully thought of how to make the world better for women, PAWISCA came up with a unique empowerment scheme to better their lives. Her words; "Many women, even in developing countries do not have a job and instead depend on their husbands. Hence, PAWISCA took it upon itself to assist the governments to reduce this kind of dependency and make women less vulnerable in Nigeria.

"We are promoting gender equality, women’s rights and women’s empowerment, especially for the poorest women. This includes education and training, to ensure fair and equal treatment and to end discrimination and violence against women and girls". 

"PAWISCA is doing everything possible to make women realize their worth. The contribution of women to a society’s transition from pre-literate to literate is undeniable." She said.

The head of Alade market who spoke to PAWISCA national journalists expressed joy about the laudable project. Her words; "I'm very grateful to PAWISCA for bringing this project to Alade market women, this is highly commendable. We hope to see more of you."

Some of the market women who also spoke during the meeting expressed their genuine willingness to be part of PAWISCA. According to one of the market women who spoke to PAWISCA journalists on anonymity. "This awareness is very important because it will educate the ignorant housewife out there who believes everything about women ends in the kitchen."
